Flash will still play a role, somewhere in the middle, for solutions that don’t demand a mobile version. Now the coolest new features of web browsers will be in demand, like many years ago. Cool transitions, and animations will spice up nice layouts. The real focus will be cross platform and cross browser support. Getting the site, the experience out to the masses in as reliable and consistent a way posible. So where does that leave us?

In Adobe’s official announcement, Danny Winokur, Adobe’s VP and general manager of interactive development, wrote, “HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively. This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms. We are excited about this, and will continue our work with key players in the HTML community, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, to drive HTML5 innovation they can use to advance their mobile browsers.”

For Web sites the answer is to lean heavy on HTML5′s latest markup and hit the CSS3 features as they are adopted. Use Javascript to handle as many of the interactive bits as possible that where once the domain of Flash. Video, audio, animations , graphics and the like are all now possible in non-Flash solutions. This is critical since Adobe opted to step away from Mobile development of Flash. With a large % of web users now on mobile, a killer presentation on that iPad is as important as the desktop experience.

Looking ahead Embark is developing solutions today that leverage Unity3D for 3D gaming and interactive experiences, and the HTML5 umbrella (HTML5, CSS3, JS) for all the non 3D pieces. The exposure of the Canvas in HTML allows for a wide spectrum of animations and drawing. WebGL also offers a nice alternative , albiet with limmited brwoser support for 3D as well.
